South Asia’s major intergovernmental organization and geopolitical union is the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are its members. As of 2019, the SAARC makes for 3% of the world’s land area, 21% of the world’s population, and 4.21 percent (US$3.67 trillion) of the global economy.
On December 8, 1985, the SAARC was established in Dhaka. Its headquarter is based in Nepal’s Kathmandu. The organization encourages the growth of regional and economic cooperation.
