Who was the first writer of “Wahi” in Quraish?
The first person to be appointed as the writer of the “Wahi” (revelation) among the Quraish was Zaid ibn Thabit, who was a companion of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Zaid ibn Thabit was known for his proficiency in reading and writing, and he was a young man during the early years of Islam when the revelation began.
When the Prophet Muhammad received the first revelation from Allah through the Angel Jibril (Gabriel), he was deeply affected and was unsure of what had happened to him. He confided in his wife Khadijah, who then took him to her cousin, Waraqah ibn Nawfal, who was a scholar and a Christian convert. Waraqah recognized the signs of prophethood in the Prophet Muhammad and confirmed that he had received a divine revelation.
After this, the Prophet Muhammad began to receive more revelations, and he appointed Zaid ibn Thabit as his scribe to write them down. Zaid ibn Thabit continued to serve as the Prophet’s scribe throughout his life and played a key role in compiling the Quran after the Prophet’s death. His efforts ensured the preservation of the Quran in its original form and have allowed Muslims to recite the same words that were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad more than 1,400 years ago.
